I Sat Where They Sat - O'Neal Church of Christ

I Sat Where They Sat Ezekiel 3:15 Ezekiel 15 Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.

Six centuries before Christ, God caused the Jews to be carried away into Baylonian captivity. The reason for this was their repeated Idolatry. During the time of the judges, Gods people turned away from him to follow the gods of the nations about them. In the time of the divided kingdom they were no better. Few of the kings in the Southern Kingdom were good and none of the kings Of the Northern Kingdom were good. They worshipped the gods of the nations about them.

They set up their own high places and worshiped all manner of gods. God had caused the Assyrians to take the Northern Kingdom into captivity because of their idolatry and now the Southern Kingdom was taken into captivity by the Babylonians. Daniel was among those taken into Babylon. His position was he sat in the gate of the king. (Daniel 2:49)..This would be comparable to being near the White House Today. Being a

prophet of God, he was near to and spoke with the king. However, there was another prophet of God in Babylon. This prophets name was Ezekiel. He was not around the court of the king. He was Gods spokesman out in the province where the people were. That connects us to our text today:

Ez. 3:15 -21 While in Babylon for their sins, Israel had the prophet Ezekiel sitting among them. He could see their plight and understand their feelings. Many times, when people have problems, those about them cannot understand how they feel, why they act or react the way they do, nor even why they do wrong. Problems are no excuse to commit sin. Often people do not take the way of escape provided by the Lord ( I Cor. 10:13)

Ezekiel 3:1-21 1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. 4 And he said unto me, Son of man, GO, get thee unto the

house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. God called Ezekiel!! 5 For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel; (to Gods people! Gods people need to listen!)) 6 Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had

I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee. 7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted. Why do people not listen to God? House of Israel are impudent and hardhearted. Impudent:

not showing due respect for another person; impertinent: synonyms: impertinent insolent cheeky cocky brazen bold audacious presumptuous forward disrespectful insubordinate brash brassy rude impolite Hardhearted. . incapable of being moved to pity or tenderness; unfeeling. synonyms: unfeeling heartless cold hard callous unsympathetic

uncaring unloving unconcerned indifferent unmoved unkind uncharitable unemotional cold-hearted 8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. 9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears. (2 things: Heart/Ears!) 11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. (say it anyway!) 12 Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.

13 I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing. 14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me. Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar,

and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days. Cf. Jobs friendsDid not speak for 7 days they are astonished (Job 2:1-just as Ezekiel Job 2: 11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to

come to mourn with him and to comfort him. 12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. 13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great. 16 And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of

the LORD came unto me, saying, 17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. 18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his

wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. (Acts 20:26-27) JonahWarned them. Jonah 1:1-3 Elders..Warned them Acts 20:28-30 Christians..Warned them. Heb. 3:12 Why? If you tell them, show them, and love them, and want them To be saved . You wont keep your mouth shut.. So many knew so much about the shooter in Floridaif only

folks Would have listened! Acts 20: 26Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy

soul. Ezekiel Sat where they sat 1. Sometimes it takes an experience to really drive Home the truth about circumstances in life. 2. Ezekiel had to sit where they satfor 7 days. 3. Jobs friendsdid about the same thingfor 7 days without Talking to Job or saying anything. 4. What does this length of time do? Caused Ezekiel and

Jobs friends to be astonishedamazedaware..of the circumstances What do you see when you sit where he sits? What do you see when you sit where they sityour own children! (Eph. 6:4) Parents over children: Some abuse their own children

.. What do you see when husbands and wives sit where each other Sit? Husband sees what the wife does .. Wife sees what the husband does What do you see when you sit where they sit.?. The Lost, the wicked, and those who have turned

away From God? What do you see when you sit where they sit. Widows lost their beloved husbands (over 30 here) Widowers lost their beloved wives People who have lost sons/daughters/ etc.

What do you see when you sit where they sit.. about ready to give upno hope..no way You have JESUS..GET CLOSER TO HIM. Jas. 4:8 Draw near to God! A Catastropic health .. Long, seemingly no end to the misery that goes with such. A Storm : lost, house/furniture/all your possessions In the storm.. A FireSame thing

What do you see when you sit where they sit.. Not a Christian..lost. Matt. 7:13-14 No hope..Rom 15:4 No prayers answered..John 9:31 Have you ever sat where somewhere else was sitting, in a funeral home where the family sits?

in a jail house where a friend or family member was imprisoned ? in a family where there were children abused and neglected? in the poverty line where people were gathered to get food under the bridge among the homeless? ..In a court room where a marriage is about to be dissolved? ..In a family room at a hospital where a loved one only has

a few hours to live? Have you ever sat in a room with a mother with children huddled up to her because their daddy was drunk, and came home screaming and abusing??. ..With a family who has just been told that their Mom or Daddy has cancer and there is no cure for their condition ..Mr. Tommy at the Grocery store where I would get

Banana boxes. Early Jan. toldstage 4died on Feb. 2 Working up to about 2 weeks before his death. 1. Have you ever sat with people who were grief stricken, Because of some real threat to their lives? 2. Have you ever sat with parents whose 20 year old son just announced to them that he no longer believes in God and quits going to church!. 3. Have you ever sat with parents who have been told their

daughter l has just told them that she was gay, and was leaving to live with another woman?. 4. Have you ever sat with old people or young people who have lost their home, their property, all their possessions, and now have no place to live?. 7. Have you ever walked into a house where you are bringing some food from members of the church to a family that, when You open the refrigerator door, there really is no food in it

They have nothing. Be careful when you judge others harshlyhave you walked in Their shoes for just one day???? The one thing that I will always remember about Kaseys sermons is this: His repeatedly stated: ungrateful , unthankfulIs perhaps the worse sin a person can be guilty of.!

Ingratitude is a hurtful sinNo thank you, no appreciation for what others have done for you. So many of us have not even told God thank you for the Many sins we have committed and which God has forgiven us. For the food, shelter and clothing that He has given us. For the fact that we are still living in the best country in the world..For families who are loving and caringwho really are helping you.

Have you ever walked in the shoes or had to go bare footed because you have no shoes? ..How about the handicapthose who can no longer walk.? ..How about the blind or those whose eyes are failing them ?..

..How about those who can no longer hearor hear very Faintly? Dont judge others too hard Pray dont find fault with the man who limps, Or stumbles along the road; Unless you have worn the shoes he wears

Or struggled beneath his load. There may be tacks in his shoes that hurt, Though hidden away from view, Or the burdens he bears, placed on your back, Might cause you to stumble too. Dont sneer at the man whos down today, Unless you have felt the blow That caused his fall, or felt the shame

That only the fallen know. You may be strong, but still the blows That were his, if dealt to you In the self-same way at the self-same time, Might cause you to stagger too. Dont be too harsh with the man who sins, Or pelt him with words or stones, Unless you are sure, yes, doubly sure That you have not sins of your own.

For you know, perhaps if the tempters voice Should whisper as soft to you, As it did to him when he went astray, Twould cause you to falter too. End If I have never sat where my brother or sister is sitting, how do I know what I would do under the same set of circumstances? I may know what is right and what I should do, but does that

mean I would do it? We hope we would do right, no matter The circumstances. But would we? Ezekiel sat where they sat Ez. 3:15 He saw their conditionHe knows what Must be done. Tell them the truth..and Get them to turn to God. The bankrupted Christian

Worked 2 and 3 jobs when he could. He could not be at all the services. After losing his wife who married someone else, he still raised his children, and worked for 25 years. He paid off his debtorsevery one and every cent. ..It was Even considered by some in the church, that since he didnt come to every service, he should be disfellowshipped. They did not know all Was in the heart of that man. He owed another man or men

debts,And he worked and paid them off. Thats all we are trying to do in preaching the Gospel Of Christ. God told Ezekiel to warn the wicked. If you are not a Christian, then you are lost. God tells you what to do: Hear. Rom. 10:17; Believe John 8:24; Repent. Luke 13:3 Confess Matt. 10:32-33 and just like Saul was told: Arise And be baptized. Acts 22:16

If you are a fallen member, repent, confess and pray. Acts 8:22; James. 5:16 And be faithful: Rev. 2:10; I Cor. 15:58
