PG #1: Knowledge and performance of simple to complex movement patterns Miss Lawley Core 3 PE Basic Motor Skill Basic movement that involves the combination of movement patterns of two or more body segments.

It takes several basic motor skills to perform a movement pattern. Motor Skills Locomotor skills: Moving from point A to point B (Running, jumping, hopping, galloping, skipping and leaping) Non-Locomotor: The body remains in place, but may move around its horizontal and vertical axis (twist, turn, bend,

stretch, swing, push, pull, etc.). Manipulative skills: Manipulating an object or person by using either an implement or body part (catching, throwing, pushing, kicking, striking, etc.). It includes an object/person AND a motor skill. Movement Skills Simple Skills: Skills that have only one or two basic movements (for example,

running or skipping). Complex Skills: Skills that combine two or more locomotor and/or manipulative fundamental movements (for example, catching and throwing, or trapping and passing). Movement Patterns Simple movement pattern: Skills that include only one or two basic

movements Complex movement pattern: Skills that have two or more locomotor and/or manipulative movements Combined movement patter: Skills that have two or more locomotor, nonlocomotor and/or manipulative movements Enhancements Directions forward, backward, left, right, up, down

Levels in space high, medium, low Pathways straight, curved, zigzag Critical Elements Small, isolated parts of the whole skill or movement

Without these elements, the movement pattern wont be as successful For example: a jump shot without the jump, throwing a softball without stepping with your opposite foot) Practice! 1. Does the student start in a squatting position? 2. Does the student raise their butt to roll with hands placed on floor?

3. Does the student keep their chin tucked to their chest? 4. Does the student stay in a ball throughout the roll? 5. Does the student roll onto the back of his/her head? 6. Does the student roll straight forward? 7. Can the student create enough momentum to stand straight up? Forward Roll NOW Write down the critical elements of 2 skills that you know.
