Why we should consider MDM models? 2 PROBLEM STATEMENT General problem: The problem is that the companys sales and marketing are losing business with growing data that is not controlled and organized by IT department Inappropriate uses of tools and processes have led to master data

inconsistency and have resulted in multiple versions of master data. Specific problem: Many IT organizations such as Microsoft have many databases spread across several divisions with no apparent consensus about specific data model architecture or shared MDM principles. Some divisions use Federated data Model (FDM) model and other divisions use Centralized Data Model (CDM) whereas the other divisions dont use MDM. 3 PURPOSE STATEMENT The purpose of this study is to identify and to further understand the MDM users and experiences on the suitable MDM model for an organization against certain factors (cost, schedule, performance, efficiency, limitations, risk, training, operations, compliances, deployment, security, accessibility, dependability, data quality, stability, maintainability, reliability, availability, flexibility, scalability, and predictability) 4 LITERATURE REVIEW

The IBM Press, The MK/OMG Press, Business Intelligence Journal, Communications of AIS, Proceedings of World Academy of Science: Engineering & Technology, Information Management, Natural Gas & Electricity, Insurance Networking News, IDC, Gartner RAS Core Research, Portuguese Journal of Management Studies, DM Review, Business Performance Management, and Information Management were the sources for collecting expert testimonies (ETs) data for this research. 5 RECOMMENDATIONS Literature review and surveys provide guidelines and recommendation for IT managers to follow to choose the suitable data management model for their organizations: Small Organization (10-99): The recommendation for such organizations is to use an FDM data model from one source or two. The cost of MDM software, operations, and maintenance is considerably high. FDM operations and maintenance are relatively low compared to CDM. IT managers must analyze the cost of technologies (specifically MDM software), operation, and human resources.

6 RECOMMENDATIONS Medium Organization (100-499): The recommendation for such organizations is to begin by analyzing the data volume, the demand of master data, and business needs in the organization. If many departments are using the same master data such as customer and product data extensively, then the urgent need for managing the master data is high and hence the business need will drive the support needed for implementing the MDM. More departments need the data to implement the CDM approach adequately. The CDM will allow fast access, better performance, and one center place to update master data. 7 RECOMMENDATIONS Large Organization (More than 500): Big organizations with more than 500 employees that have urgent need for MDM system to handle complex business process keep track of continual changes, and increasingly

merger and acquisition activities. Scalable MDM system is able to transform systems to SaaS (software as a Service) by cultivating it to deal with multitenant environment as well as assuring scalability and configuration capability. The recommendation for such needs is to implement CDM style. 8 SUGGESTIONS FOR FURTHER RESEARCH The cloud computing is taking the momentum and it is use increases.
