Team Results: Reserve Team, Goats; Reserve Team, Sheep; 3rd Team Reasons. Individual Results: Jillian Keller - 2nd in Sheep, 2nd in Goats; Brody Nemecek - 3rd in Swine, 8th Overall; Clay Brillhart - 4th in Hogs, 8th in Goats, 9th Overall; Haydon Schaaf, 7th in Sheep, 8th in Reasons. This team also earned the opportunity to judge at the Royal Highland Show in Scotland in June - an honor that comes with a steep price tag, which means significant fundraising is in our immediate future! Dog Show, in Hutchinson, on Saturday, September 14th. Dog members cannot just register for the KSF 4-H Dog Show without qualifying every year. The disciplines are showmanship, obedience, agility and rally obedience. Most of these qualifier dog shows happen during county fairs or invitational dog shows during spring and summer. FEATURE 4-H The Dancing with our Stars event on February 9th is held by the Fort Scott Rotary Club to feature community organizations and help them raise money for the charity of their choice. Last year, Landmark Bank choose Bourbon County 4-H. It was a great way for us to be highlighted in the community and they raised quite a bit of money for us. This year, Southwind District was asked to participate and 4-H was selected. Our dancers have been working hard to prepare, so make plans to buy tickets. Shout out to our Dancers and their parents: Addison Metcalf, Gracin Pitts, Amanda Emmerson, Dylan & Dakota Hazelbaker, Jentry & Riley Palmer, and Kallie Norris. Special thank you ALLEN COUNTY NEWS WIN A LAMB! Local sheep breeder, David Gillespie, would like to help a young 4-Her who wants to learn more about the market lamb project. This is for 4-Hers who have never been in the project before. To win the lamb, you must write an essay expressing why you would like this opportunity and what you hope to learn. Gillespie plans to provide education along the way to ensure a positive experience. Essays are due to the Extension Office by April 1. BEEF WEIGH-IN All steers and commercial (crossbred) heifers must be weighed and tagged to be eligible to show at the Allen County Fair. Tags will cost $4 per tag. Mar your calendars for March 6 from 4pm6pm OR March 8 from 5pm-6pm at the Allen County Fairgrounds in Iola. Allen County can always use extra help to weigh-in and tag, if you are available on either of those days. LIVESTOCK LEADERS MEETING All livestock project leaders and superintendents are invited to attend this annual meeting on Wednesday, February 13 at 5:30 pm to discuss judges for the 2019 Allen County Fair 4-H Livestock shows. Each club should make an effort to have at least one person in attendance to be sure your voice is heard with regard to creating a judges list.
