Be Strong in the Lord Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of

God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Be Strong in the Lord 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of

faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Spiritual warfare involves God and Satan and Mankind and the world. It involves Gods word and ways and Satans deceit and guile and influence. And it involves mans logic and passions and loves; it involves the worlds allures and

attractions.. God commanded, Satan questioned His word Woman listened and Satan refuted Gods word Woman looked and was tempted Satan deceived, and woman sinned And spiritual warfare is a vital topic for us today because our culture (having lost its spiritual grounding) is oblivious to it (at least on a meaningful level) and we in the church have largely ignored the topic although it is an important Biblical issue

So lets be true to the word and approach this topic faithfully and carefully and wisely. God - the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Self-description in speaking to Moses) Ex 34:6 The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands,

and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished... Satan- a figure appearing in the texts of the Abrahamic religions who brings evil and temptation, and is known as the deceiver who leads humanity astray. Satan is a spiritual being who led a heavenly revolt against God and was subsequently cast down into the earth (Luke 10:18). I believe Satan is the chief fallen angel (see Isa 14:12-14 and Ez 28:12-18) who commands a

great number of demons. 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Man - human beings created in the image of God; God is Spirit and Holy in nature, but man (though mortal and frail) was made in His likeness (mentally, morally, socially). Rom 5:12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so

death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. World- variety of applications; the planet, the people of the world, (and in this context) the conditions and systems the people of the world embrace/ pursue 1Jn 2:15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything

we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. There we have the basic of spiritual warfare; God loves you and has a plan and purpose for your life Satan hates you and he comes only to steal kill and destroy (Jn 10:10). God has granted Satan limited effect and influence in the world we live in Man is mortal and weak and frail; and prideful and arrogant.

The world is attractive and appealing and often destructive and so the battle rages. The battle is great, the forces are strong and the deceptions are deep...into that setting Paul writes; Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes.

Finally = for the rest Be strong = typically translated force or might; here, the best interpretation is to be empowered in the Lord = it doesnt say you can do it on your own! How does this strengthening take place? Through relationship with Him and a dependence upon him. If you are in a living relationship with Him, His great power is available, He can strengthen and

empower you. No relationship = no power beyond your own. No abilities beyond your own. As straightforward and simple as that sounds, Satan does all he can to deceive and distort. Those who dont beleive... 2 Co 4:4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They

don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power = Paul has written of this great power earlier Eph 1:19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God's

right hand in the heavenly realms. Jesus overcame the power of sin and death! He conquered Satan! Eph 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being (NASB = inner man) - the real me/ mind, will, emotions/ personality Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the

full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power; Have your heart settled in Christ; know Him (intimately!), know about Him (His character and work), know Him experientially (walk by faith). A vital question occurs...How does that come about? Allow me to remind you of Jesus loving words

John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. In the context of our study this morning, if you dont remain (abide) in Christ you will not have the strength to stand in the face of spiritual attacks...you will be vulnerable. your stand against the devils schemes. put on the full armor of God; we are engaged in a great battle, we must be dressed for combat. full armor indicates the complete equipping necessary; there is great protection provided but the individual soldier must put on each piece in order to be fully prepared for battle. So you can stand against - a military term as a military term meaning to resist the enemy, hold the position, and offer no

surrender in spite of an attack and irrespective of others fleeing. The devils (diabolos= Gk) the false accuser, slanderer (Satan) schemes -(methodeia = Gk) cunning arts, deceit, craft, trickery Some of Satans schemes Man-centered thinking Col 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human

tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Pursuit of wealth 1Ti 6:9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many

sorrows. False teaching 2Co 11:13 These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

Human Weakness 1Co 7:5 Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won't be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control. Attraction and allure of the world
