Vehicle Information Chapter 9 Vehicle Information Before you drive your car on New Jersey roads, you must: -Title it -Register it -Insure it Vehicle Title If you move to NJ, your vehicle must be titled and registered: -Within 60 days -Before the out-of-state registration expires

-Whichever comes first Vehicle Title How to title a New Car: A. Generally, the car dealership where the vehicle was purchased will provide you with the completed title as a convenience B. If the dealership does not provide you with the title, they must provide you with the manufacturers certificate of origin -If option B, take the certificate of origin to the NJDMV and pay the required titling fee. -Often used when buying cars from newspapers, craigslist, family members, side of road, etc. 1. The title must be taken to the DMV within 10 business days of sale date to avoid $25 fee. 2.
